‘1776’ is a refreshing musical that brings to life historical events in unexpected ways
Last week, my hubby and I attended the opening night of the Tony Award-winning musical ‘1776’ at the Ahmanson Theatre at the Music Center in Downtown LA. This refreshing musical brings to life a historical story and legendary characters in an unexpected and stereotype defying ways that makes you think about and question the normal the progression of events during that era.
Being a big fan of historical fiction brought to life during modern times, what I loved most about this production is the refreshingly diverse cast of women, transgender, and nonbinary actors portraying the iconic historical characters like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin in an unexpected turn of events. This twist keeps you engaged and interested in this familiar story.
Needless to say, ‘1776’ opens up your mind and makes you think about the infinite possibilities of being a woman with power and influence during a historically patriarchal time. What I loved most about this musical is that it was a refreshing and wonderful way to introduce the audience to characters and a story that is familiar but turns it on its head.
‘1776 is now playing at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown LA through May 7, 2023. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets!
