‘The Secret Garden’ now at the Ahmanson Theatre is picturesque musical that takes you on a magical journey into a child’s heart and mind

Last week, I attended the opening matinee performance of The Secret Garden at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown LA. This beloved magical tale takes theater goers on an ethereal adventure to another time and place where love, loss, passion and play all collide in one of the most heartwarming and beautiful productions that I have seen in a long time.

As a musical theater buff, I have always wanted to see The Secret Garden and am delighted that the Ahmanson added it to this season’s line-up. This magical story follows the young, orphaned Mary Lennox (portrayed by the wonderfully talented, charismatic and spunky Emily Jewel Hoder) as she’s sent from her home in India to live with her reclusive uncle on his haunted English country estate. This picturesque and beautiful musical immerses you into Mary’s youthful
unapologetic curiosity as she explores the garden of her uncle’s estate and meets a variety of intriguing and affable characters along the way.

This is one of those shows that allows you to step inside the creativity and innocence of a child’s heart and mind. The Secret Garden has been reimagined for a new generation of theater goers with a haunting and powerful score created by the original writers Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman and Grammy Award-winning composer Lucy Simon.

I thoroughly got lost in the magic and wonder of this show! It is a riveting and emotional story that tugs at your heart strings and makes you believe that anything is possible. And the cast is filled with superb, seasoned Broadway talent with the standouts being Sierra Boggess with her exquisite powerful operatic voice and Juila Lester with her charismatic stage presence and superb comedic timing. This is a wonderful show for the whole family to see because it appeals to young and old theater lovers alike! It’s fun, magical, picturesque and heartwarming.

The Secret Garden is now playing at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown Los Angeles through March 26, 2023.

In addition, tickets to this delightful show as well as 75+ additional amazing productions are available during LA Theatre Week which runs from March 13-26, 2023. Tickets start at just $20, find out more information and buy your tickets HERE.
